The UEFA Champions League semi-final gives the Egyptian King Mo Salah a return to his former club, Roma a year less than after he signed to English side Liverpool. Will Salah score on his return to Rome or at Anfield? That kweshen will be answered when the two sides meet – after the 2017/18 UCL draw.
Real Madrid are eyeing their third successive Champions League victory in a row but first, they have to face the German champions Bayern Munich in the semi-final of the competition. Liverpool on the other hand face the Italian side Roma who knocked out Barcelona. Roma is the only team team in the semi-finals tie that has never won the Champions League.
Liverpool will remain to be happy to avoid both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the semi-final where they played last in 2008 and find it a golden opportunity to face Roma. Jurgen Klopp’s men will welcome the Serie A side to Anfield for the first leg on the 24th of April, before travelling to the Stadio Olimpico on 2nd of May. Liverpool last won the competition in 2005 under Rafa Benitez after beating another Serie A side AC Milan in the final.
Bayern Munich welcome Real Madrid for the first leg at the Allianz Arena to be played on the 25th of April and the second leg on the 1st of May. This is the tough tie between the semi-final matches. The last time the two sides met was in Quarter-finals of the same competition where Real Madrid qualified to the semi-finals after a hard fought matches which was decide with after extra time.
Up to this stage the Champions League has had more of drama and surprises. Manchester United was knocked out of the competition after being knocked out by Sevilla in the round of 16. Manchester City were beaten home and away by Klopp’s side. Barcelona on the other side were not spared by Roma and lost their first match in all competitions in the 2017/2018 season. Juventus came from a goal down to knock out English side Tottenham at the Wembley Stadium to win 2-1. Juventus also gave Real Madrid a hard time after equalling the away goals of 3 putting aggregate into 3-3 before Zidane’s side were awarded a controversial spot kick giving Real the advantage that also saw Buffon being sent of. What are we likely to see in the four semi-final games? more drama or surprises?
The German side Bayern have already won the domestic league with games to spare and coach Jupp Hynckes will want to rap it up with the Champions League victory as he is also set to leave the club less than year since he joined after Ancelloti recording poorly this season. Jupp has also lost a single match since the time he joined. The tie with Zidane would actually be tough. The last time Bayern won the competition was in 2013 after beating their domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund who were then under Jurgen Klopp.
